Lego for Beginners

I am the mother of a four year old boy and I have a confession to make....I have never made anything particularly good (nor have I ever really tried) at Lego.

Being the youngest of seven girls Duplo and Lego, monster trucks, super heroes, ninja fights and pirating - If that's even a word has never really been a thing in my world.

Growing up I was all dolls, tea parties, dancing, dolls, singing, dolls, make up, dolls... you get the idea. A quality Saturday afternoon for me was having my friend down the street come over with an ice cream container full of her mums Avon samples (most exciting mum EVER!) and spending vast amounts of time applying purple eyeshadow and coral lipstick (dont judge it was the 80s ) and then making up dances to Wham Rap - again it was the 80s but clearly that song still speaks to the youth of today in its coolness. It was no Club Tropicana but really if you are to compare the two.... (sorry got lost in a pina colada reverie there must be this unseasonably warm September!)

As I was saying, I'm not used to all this boyhood that is happening before my eyes and the Lego is a huge part of it. A few days ago I decided to take the Lego by the horns or by the blocks and I sat down and actually followed instructions to build some shit - and yes that is the technical term before you ask. At the end I found out Lego is pretty damn good - when it comes with step by step instructions, however anything that is freestyle much like most freestyle things in my life it turns into an unworkable mess!

I love this new boys world which is completely and utterly foreign to me, I'm not very good at it. I'm rubbish at playing Avengers, I can't make cars out of Lego for love nor money and playing garages is hard work, but I am exceedingly brilliant at ninja fights and I'm fantastic at football - he is only 4, I'm sure this will soon change. As rubbish as I am at pretty much most of it, I kinda love learning about it, its like another language, and to be honest I don't think I could handle playing princesses and dolls having tea parties and the thought of sitting through Frozen makes me want to cry - LET IT GO ALREADY!!!! But Kung Fu Panda, now that just kicks arse!
