Down on the Farm

I'm a city girl to be fair, I love being close to cinemas, zara and anyone that knows me even a little bit knows I have an obsession with street food. There is, however, a tiny little part of me that would love to live in the country and have animals, wear Cath Kidston 24 / 7 and bake cakes I would then proudly display on vintage floral cake stands for when a neighbour just happened to pop in.

There is also the other part of me (this is the part of me I would like to refer to now as the sane part )that knows, come nightfall I would be FREAKIN OUT at the complete and utter darkness, no neighbours for miles and jumping at every single sound, too scared to open my front door after 5pm in case an axe murderer is lurking in the (not very well lit ) bushes!

So, for me, Gorgie City Farm is a fantastic compromise right in town and only a 15 minute bus ride away! Its inexpensive, has a good mixture of farm type animals (such a country girl I even have the lingo down) and as does every childrens favourite place, a play park! There is only one slight problem..... The dude is scared of all animals!

Chickens used to be a favourite, roosters and hens, I was safe with those little squawkers, they aren't big they don't make too much noise (if you time it correctly ) and they dont jump or lurch at you with big teeth. Which is pretty much the reason hes terrified of cows (too loud and mooey) pigs ( too big and stinky ) horses (just too big ) and don't even get me started on the farm dog! But alas we had to admire everyone from afar, even the piglets!

Having said that, the dude does have a soft spot for guinea pigs and rabbits so I suppose it wasn't all wasted, plus their cafe does a pretty good victoria sponge! Gorgie City Farm is a great little introduction to farm life and they do a great volunteer scheme for kids if you have a budding Dr Doolittle on your hands and don't mind getting them dirty.

Sadly, for now, I think my dude may be more like his mother and not be moving to a very big house in the country anytime soon. But it's nice for a day.
