So in Australia this week is the beginning of a school year! And although my dude doesn't start school till later on in the year it did make me wonder, how many parents give up a career due to the pressures of after school, breakfast clubs, insane amounts of school holidays and teacher training days...
I am in the position that I am not currently in my dream job, nor do I have the luxury of grandparents and aunties. So to sacrifice this small part of my life in order to be there for pick up and drop off and sick days come summer I will be a "stay at home mum." Hopefully, all going well and the study I will be starting in a few weeks to brush up on some skills and take my career in a different direction will not be in vain and I will be a "stay at home mum who freelances from home in a fulfilling career whilst also being able to maintain my own childcare."
I get that this is not an option for all mums, hell some mums even have a job they actually like! Gasp!! Yes, this is actually achievable for some people not just a thing you read about in magazines ! For that reason it's brilliant that breakfast clubs and after school clubs exist and for some mums, its the only option... But I have decided to take the big leap, have faith in myself and jump off the cliff in the hope that it all pays off in the end and makes for a better life for the three of us..
This does mean that we wont be going on any holidays to Morocco .. or even Benidorm for that matter any time soon and the purse strings will be even tighter than they already are... but that's ok, because my aim, since my little dude was born four years ago was just to pay the bills, be present in his life as much as possible during his little dude years, but also, someday, be able to find a career that I love whilst not sacrificing the other stuff. It means I will probably never be a millionairess and I may not be climbing the corporate ladder anytime soon, but I will shortly be taking the baby steps towards a new, more fulfilling life..
